A Winter NYC Elopement at City Hall

Christina DeVictor December 31, 2018

Hi friends! It’s finally happening — we are back to blogging and it feels a bit like coming home. It is a joy to revisit the stories we have documented around the world. As Nicola, Michelle and I gear up for our next wedding season, I personally can’t help but marvel at a few things:

1. We have truly integrated into a team after months of forming a unified vision. I find myself in constant disbelief that I get to do life and work alongside such amazingly talented humans. Their talent pushes me and their spirit inspires me. I cannot imagine what this year would look like without them.

2. After all of these years of photographing weddings and people, all three of us still love what we do. We still believe in what we do. We are fortunate to come alongside our clients during one of the most meaningful times in their lives and contribute to their visual legacy. What an honor it is.

Alright, now here’s a session that just makes me smile. L + B flew all the way from New Zealand for their New York City elopement right before the holidays. They didn’t tell their families and made sure the celebration was just for them. So much so that they almost didn’t book a photographer! Thankfully they pulled the trigger a few weeks out and I joined them early December for their meaningful day.

The frigid morning started at Jack’s Wife Freda for a little get-to-know one another breakfast (these meet-ups are a crucial part of telling an honest story). After a short break to get ready, we met back up at Public Hotel in Nolita before heading to the City Clerk’s office. One of my favorite recommendations on elopement/wedding day is to have us join to document the transit. There are such great candids filled with nervous excitement. We just love it!

After a quick but meaningful ceremony, we hustled around town, hopping in and out of light before heading to the High Line for a golden sunset. Finally when the warmth left us, we grabbed a taxi to headed back to the hotel for a champagne night cap and continued conversation. What a day.

A few words from the bride herself:

We have been looking at our photos non stop since we received them and we love them SO much! We go from start to finish every time and it takes us right back and we love every moment of it. You captured us and our day perfectly. We cannot believe how gorg you made the day and how you managed to make us look beautiful - not to mention warm, happy and relaxed (especially B!!! - he is SO impressed!). We cannot thank you enough. We were so unsure about having a photographer (given that it was just 'us') but we new so pleased that we did - and so, so pleased that it was you. You made it effortless and we loved having you there to play such a special part in our day. Thank you.
